:Electric Wizard::REVIEW OF US TOUR 2001:

Electric Wizard/WarHorse/Plaster
Atlanta, GA- March 9, 2001

by Spinebinder

Wow! What a loud show (my right ear physically hurt for two days afterwards)! Local band Plaster opened up with a set of all new material (well, they didn't play anything from their album--they may have played the song from the "Judge Not . . ." comp) ending with a pretty cool cover of "Astronomy Domine" by Pink Floyd. I've never seen 'em before but I like their CD and I enjoyed their set.

WarHorse came on next and really impressed me. I've got the 12" of "The Priestess" and I thought it OK but a little imitative of Electric Wizard. Well, live they proved they are definitely their own band. I was impressed enough to buy both of their CDs after their set.

Electric Wizard weren't nearly as loud as I had feared. The guitar was a bit louder than the bass so I yelled to the bass player to turn up after the first song. That did it! Nice balance and crushingly loud & heavy. I really enjoyed watching Jus play guitar--a lot of the time he just made noise for solos (just like me! cool!). Another local band, Gonzales, played last but my ears hurt enough already so I went home (their first few songs sounded pretty good).

Touring bands: Don't skip Atlanta!!! Both WarHorse and Electric Wizard said Nine Lives Saloon was a cool club to play (Angel Rot and Throttlerod have played there as well and seemed to like it).
