:Electric Wizard::REVIEW OF US TOUR 2001: Electric Wizard/Warhorse/Goatsnake/Acid
King by s8n Warhorse, Acid King, Goatsnake, and Electric Wizard on a Monday night at the Troubadour here Los Angeles. This show had a pretty good draw considering it was a Monday night and all. I'd say there were about 300 heads there rocking out. Needless to say this show kicked major, and I do mean MAJOR ass. All the bands played very tight and were on their game big time. First up was Warhorse. I've heard there music before and I never thought much of them, but live is a whole other story. The music was heavy, REAL heavy, for whatever reason they seem heavier live then on a recording. Very tight performance. The crowd was still gathering as they began their set but by the middle of it the place started to fill up a little bit and the people seemed to really like what they were hearing. 2nd was Acid King. These guys are a great band. The bass player is just a fucking monster on his instrument and is clearly a top notch player. He also seemed to have the most energy. He was bouncing, jumping and just rocking out in general. Real fun guy to watch and seemed to be the focal point for the band even though he's not the singer. 3rd was Goatsnake. IMO they had the best set. Very energetic. The crowd was way into these guys and most of us were really groovin on this band. At this point the floor was packed and from what I could see upstairs had quite a few people there as well. By this time I was center stage soaking it all up. It's funny cause this is another band that I had listened to and didn't think much of. The singers voice just doesn't appeal to me. live the music was fucking great. The singers voice was kind of low in the mix so he didn't sound bad. To his credit though he's a real good front man and had the crowd swaying pretty good. Next up my favorite band in the whole world ELECTRIC WIZARD!! Right off the bat their set started off fucked up. Jus's mic was off when the band started so you couldn't hear him singing. The freaking sound guy really sucked and if it were me I would have reamed the guy a new asshole for fucking up stupid shit like that. Anyway, right when the Ewiz hit the stage the bowls started started balzing and the smell of bud drenched the air. It seemed like the crowd was sort of shell shocked at this point cause most of em were just kind of staring at the band. Maybe they were just all to stoned to move. There were some heads bobbing but not as much as there was for Goatsnake. Ewiz seems to have an attitude like lets just jam and whatever happens happens. The bass player kept looking at Jus to see where he was and at times seemed a little lost. They were real loud so he probably couldn't hear real well. The drummer had a problem with his hi hat in the middle of the set and pretty much threw them to the side and moved to his crash. The drummer from Warhorse came down and gave him a hand and set the hats back up and corrected the problem. Overall the band was great and really into it. Minor problems but no big deal. Well thats it. My ears are still ringing and my head still spinning so I'm gonna go back to bed. See Ya...
