ELECTRIC WIZARD RELEASE NEW ALBUM!
LET US PREY

Following on from the blurred out acid grind of 2000's weedathon masterwork, Dopethrone, the worlds most stoned cult band Electric Wizard return with arguably their most focused and accomplished release to date.

The dark mysteries surrounding the obliterated world of Electric Wizard are further explored in this Marijuana induced minefield of riffs, alchemy and screams of the undead.

Recorded over a period of 6 weeks in September and October 2001, Let Us Prey sees a return to the more tripped-out hypnotic mantras of 1996's Come My Fanatics, with the most psychedelic and ambitious production values ever associated with the group, courtesy of Dopethrone engineer John Stephens and Justin Oborn.

From the opening track ñƒA Chosen Fewî it is clear that Electric Wizard are out to do the business as never before, spaced out vocals swirl in and out of the mix, while the drums pound like they never have on previous efforts and the wall of guitar attack simply crushes. The bludgeon remains throughout the Eyehategod fighting Trouble doom grind of ñWe, The Undead, and the epic almost Call of Kutuluesque instrumental ñMaster of Alchemyî to the album closer and soon to be live highlight, ñPriestess of Marsî.

The only moment of respite is 70's horror flick homage ñNight of the Shapeî. It is well documented that the path of the Wizard has never followed a straight, conventional route. In fact it is the cloud of black chaos that seems to guide the every move, upon which they seem to thrive, dragging them deeper and deeper into the psychedelic nadir of apocalyptic sludge.

Since the release of Dopethrone, the undeniable sense-shattering bludgeon of Electric Wizard has sent sonic tidal waves of Doom crashing across the Atlantic. With two majorly successful Stateside tours under their belt, and another scheduled to coincide with the release of Let Us Prey, things are starting to look good for them stateside.

With crust ridden riffs reflecting the rotting corpse of modern society, the bonged out, disillusioned hordes of dazed youth are finding salvation in being transported to another world. A world buried the under hypnotic trance of mind altering drones-the key to this world is Marijuana. !

TIM BAGSHAW DISPELS RUMORS

I had the chance to speak with Tim Bagshaw, bassist for Electric Wizard, at their show at Austin's SXSW festival at The Backroom, March 15, 2001. According to Tim, he is unsure how rumors he was leaving the band got started, but he assured me that was not his intention.

He chaulked the story up to simple internet rumors and when on to wonder why people would think he would leave the band now when Electric Wizard are popular enough to do a US tour.

ELECTRIC WIZARD experience the US's War On Drugs firsthand!

All three members of Electric Wizard were searched and interrogated for possession of illegal substances in Richmond, VA on Wednesday March 7th.

Electric Wizard arrived in Richmond, VA late in the afternoon on Wednesday, March 7th to load-in and sound check for their show that evening at Twisters. War Horse, the support band on all tour dates was in the venue setting up when Electric Wizard was spotted by the police entering a van in the parking lot with a local man.

All members of the band and the local man were in the tour van when they realized that they were completely surrounded by local police. The band was asked to step out of the van, at which point the interrogation began. The van was subjected to a thorough search, which revealed no illegal substances.

The only possession of drugs that could be ascertained was the amount being literally held by the band and the local man. A very lengthy cross examination ensued. Erik Larson of Richmond, VA based band, Alabama Thunderpussy (also on the bill that evening) was able to intervene on behalf of his British colleagues and get the police to drop the charges.

Had charges been pressed and Electric Wizard found guilty of possession, the band would have been deported and barred from ever re-entering the U.S.

When asked to comment on the incident the band's U.S. label, The Music Cartel, replied "with a band like the Electric Wizard something like this happening wasn't very far off the mark. I just hope nothing worse happens before the tour is completed."

Wizard will complete the remaining tour dates as planned.
